Ecomhunt's Trending Product Suggestion - Sell This Cat Couch Guard + Ad & Store Review And A Sale Strategy

Another week and another amazing winning product recommendation!

This time it’s a product every cat owner in the world must have, and the best thing is that you can sell it in packs which will increase your AOV(Average Order Value).

As always, I reviewed everything about this product including the Facebook ad and the store selling this product.

In all my time reviewing dropshipping stores, I always found stuff needed to be fixed. But with this store, I barely had anything bad to say about it… On top of that, they had one of the best product pages I have ever seen.

So make sure to check it out to see how a great looking store should look like!

Enjoy.

1. The Product

Cat couch guard product from Ecomhunt

Today’s winning product is this cat couch guard every cat owner must have! As a cat owner myself, I know how frustrating it can be to have cats scratch your furniture.

You can’t really teach them to not do that(unless you can watch them 24/7), so you need to find a way to stop them from ruining your furniture.

Scratch posts can help prevent this problem but not everyone is lucky enough to have cats that only use the scratch posts. So the only possible way to prevent that is with these furniture scratch protectors.

Another good thing about this product is the amounts you can sell as people will need multiple pieces to protect all their furniture.

If you market it correctly and offer a good discount on multiple pieces, then you can probably make a small fortune here ?

Oh, and by the way, if you have been reading some of my very old Aliexpress product recommendations, you may recognize this product as I recommended something almost identical to sell a long time ago.

In this article where I review the product, you will find more useful stuff like detailed targeting suggestions and ad examples. Make sure to check it out to learn more stuff that will help you sell this product better.

2. The Ad

Cat couch guard Facebook video ad

The video ad, in my opinion, is perfect – It starts the right way(just as I told to do in my old article which I linked above) by showing cats ruining good furniture.

The first 3 seconds of your video must have something that will make people on Facebook stop from scrolling. The cats scratching sofas are just perfect and this is how you should do it if you decide to advertise this product too.

Next are the bits which are showing the solution to the problem and this is where the product comes into the video. We can see how the product works, with some extra texts giving us more details about it.

The video ends with a simple call-to-action text and the seller makes sure to also mention the discount he’s running which is great.

I wish there was at least one shot of a cat failing to scratch a sofa but other than that everything’s just perfect!

Ad copy:

Cat scratch guard Facebook ad copy

The ad copy is pretty good and have everything you need in it. A short line explaining about the product and the problem it solves, a call-to-action text, and a word about the current discount.

The only thing I would change is the link location which should be above the discount text for people to see the link without clicking on the See More button.

And maybe a cute cat emoji somewhere in the first line too ?

Note:

If you look at the link, you can see that they customized it and made it shorter. Instead of the url looking something like this “yoursite.com/long-product-url”, they shortened it and made it look like this “yoursite.com/product”.

Looks like they know what they’re doing!

3. The Store

Cat couch guard online store

This is probably one of the best product pages I have seen so far… I think they’re using a special premium theme that allows you to customize a product page to look like a one-product store.

This look right here is exactly how a one-product store looks like when you visit it:

You have pictures from left & right side with a description on them, and more than 1 button that will lead you to the checkout. You also have really nice GIFs that show you how the product works, and even a well designed bundle deal.

cat couch guard bundle deal

Now that I think about it, it’s probably a Shopify app that’s responsible for this beautiful product page. There are apps on the Shopify App Store that allow you to fully customize and build amazing looking pages to get a better conversion rate.

It’s the same as building a landing page on ClickFunnels just on a Shopify store. I wish I could recommend an app to do exactly the same, but I haven’t used one so far so I can’t recommend any…

You can search for yourselves on the app store by typing “landing page” and trying out one of the apps with the best reviews if you really want too.

But this isn’t really necessary in the early stages because you can still get a really good conversion rate with a regular product page if you do it correctly.

And just before the reviews, they add these awesome pictures:

cat couch guard in action pictures

I absolutely LOVE what they’ve done with this store!

The reviews:

Plenty of 5 & 4 star reviews with great pictures, and great texts in them. No typos and no auto-translated English from Chinese, this is exactly how a review section should look like!

Final score: 10/10:

Their product page is the best one I have seen so far. They have everything you need from your regular guarantees & shipping times, to excellent reviews and bundle deals.

And they also focus solely on this one product and don’t recommend any other random products which can cause some of the customers to lose focus and get out without buying a thing.

This one mistake is done by almost every store I review but not on this one – Perfect!

4. Checkout

cat couch guard checkout shipping information

The one thing I don’t understand here is why such a good looking store doesn’t have a normal looking logo… Reckless cat is a really cool domain name and I’m sure you can create a really cute looking logo around it.

I bet not having a cute logo doesn’t hurt their sales too much, but it’s always recommended to have one. At least on the checkout page where you can attach to it some extra trust badges to make the checkout page look more professional.

It looks like they use SMS marketing(or at least plan to use it in the future) as well because of this message right below the “Continue to Shipping” button:

cat couch guard sms marketing

And even with that, they still allow to checkout without entering a phone number. It’s critical because some people don’t like giving their phone numbers and can leave without buying anything if they are forced to do that.

Their only mistake is that they forgot to mention this is optional… Other than that, everything else looks good!

Shipping:

Almost perfect!

First of all, I really liked the fact their Free Shipping is advertised as “Limited Time Only”. A great scarcity and honestly I’ll be using that in my stores as well. I usually go with something like “Free Insured Shipping”, but I like this one better 🙂

They offer 2 more extra options for an additional price and they actually explain what each option gives you. I reviewed so many stores by now and on almost all of them there was no explanation at all for the other options.

These guys did their homework!

Still, there’s one thing I don’t really like and it’s the third option… You, as a store owner, are expected to cover the cost of your goods if something goes wrong.

If the product is damaged or lost, your customers should get a full refund or a new product shipped to them. This lifetime warranty can scare some of the customers away because they now know that you are not going to be held responsible at all.

So some of the customers might think this $9.97 warranty & shipping option isn’t really optional and they can leave the store without buying anything.

If it was just Priority Shipping, then that’s ok. But the warranty ruins the experience a bit… (especially when the product is pretty cheap)

Payment page:

cat couch guard payment page

Nothing wrong with the payment page except for the custom tip table… Is this a new trend I didn’t heard about, because it’s on every 2nd store I review and I don’t like it at all.

Like I said before, I don’t think there’s a room to ask for tips when you’re a just regular dropshipping store that sells random products.

If this was a special handmade product then I understand, but this is just a regular scratch couch guard so all it can do is irritate some of your customers.

Think about it:

A minute ago, your customers were thinking about getting a $10 warranty because they understood that you’re not responsible if anything happens. And now, on top of it all, you are asking for a tip?

You may lose a customer or two because of that.

5. Sale Strategy

The product cost on Aliexpress is about $12 including shipping for x4 30×45(cm) couch guard pieces. The store is selling the 4-pack for $29.99 including shipping which is a great price and it’s probably the price I would charge as well.

I like that they don’t offer a smaller size(15x30cm) and just go with the bigger size instead. It’s a good idea because it’s one less thing to think about and you can always cut it down to the size you need.

So offering only the bigger size is a really good idea and you should also stick to that.

Bundles:

Quantity discounts are a must!

Follow the same strategy as this store, though you can charge a bit more for the 8 & 12 pack. You can try selling the 8 pack for $49.99 and the 12 pack for $79.99.

Don’t offer anything else other than this product. No random upsells/bundles, just focus on this product and later you can sell them more cat stuff if this goes well for you.

To Sum It Up:

This product is a must have for cat owners! You have a HUGE audience you can target on Facebook, so just create a good ad around this product, make your product page look good, and you should have no problem selling this product!

And if you’re looking for targeting tips, make sure to check out my old article where I suggested some targeting options you can use for your own campaigns.

Good luck!

Amazon drawing advertisers from Facebook ads because of Apple privacy update

Amazon has started to grab advertisers from Facebook because of the Apple privacy update in June that makes Facebook advertising less effective.

According to the report by Bloomberg, it is still too early to analyze how widespread the shift is, and that many advertisers do not want to move to Amazon because they would lose direct connection with their customers.

New York marketing agency Belardi Wong told Bloomberg that more than 40% of its 300 clients in June had a drop in Facebook ads performance.

“We’re seeing more and more of our clients branch out to marketplaces like Amazon,” agency President Polly Wong said.

In addition, according to the report, brands are shifting from Facebook ads to social-media influencers, broadcast media, and mail.

Instagram testing ads in Shop tab

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, is pushing its e-commerce business with a new ads feature in Instagram Shop.

The company announced it is testing using both single images and the option for a carousel, according to a report by TechCrunch on Monday.

Ads in the Instagram Shop tab will be based on an auction model and will only appear on mobile, the company said. At first, it says, only certain U.S. brands will be able to test the feature, but it will expand to advertisers in other non-U.S. markets over the next few months.

Instagram Shops was started last year.

TikTok is now the world’s most downloaded app, beating Facebook

According to a global survey of app downloads in 2020, the video-sharing social media app TikTok overtook Facebook as the most downloaded app.

This was the first time TikTok topped the list of social media platforms since the study was first carried out in 2018, reported Nikkei Asia, using data from App Annie.

TikTok was created in China by ByteDance and the app has overtaken Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger in the number of downloads both world-wide and in the United States, according to the survey. Facebook owns Whatsapp and Instagram.

Meanwhile, TikTok announced last week that it is running a pilot on a new feature called TikTok Stories, similar to the function on Instagram.

Ecom King reveals secrets to success on TikTok ads

0
Tik Tok logo (Wikipedia)

Mohammed Kamil Sattar (The Ecom King) revealed in his latest Youtube video the TikTok ads strategy for his business partner that led to what he claims was around $61,000 sales in 30 days.

According to the case study of the testing, there was a 41% profit margin of nearly $25,000. Sattar reloaded the Shopify page to prove that the results were indeed real.

The way the product was discovered was by coming across a viral video with 20 million views on TikTok and then seeing that the store had a poor website and incorrect pricing. Sattar also says that one can find winning products for TikTok by looking at old Facebook winning products or searching hashtags such as #tiktokmademebuyit and #amazonfinds.

The video that Sattar’s partner Jeremy ran organically got 2 million views but failed when using TikTok ads. The conclusion was that the product price was too high at $50 and so they lowered it to $29.95 and made $8,200 in revenue. Paid ads worked for one week and then petered out.

Jeremy created three creatives with his phone and used the conversion ad objective in the United States and Canadian market.

The ads strategy that worked was duplicating adsets. Increasing budgets by 30% performed poorly. According to Sattar, sound is very important when running ads on TikTok.

While the TikTok platform is similar to Facebook, in their testing, interest targeting, Lookalike Audiences, and Manual bidding did not work well on TikTok.

Jeremy said that TikTok customer service is better than Facebook ads and could blow up in the 4th quarter of this year.

The luxury pet wear market is huge

Luxury pet wear is a profitable niche as data from the European Pet Food INdustry show that services and non-food products are worth 21.2 billion euros per year.

According to the report in FashionUnited UK, 88 million households in Europe own a pet and for that reason brands such as Gucci, Prada, Versace, and Ralph Lauren offer clothes for pets. The European countries with the most dogs per capita are Russia, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Poland.

What is Email Marketing and Why is it so important to have for any Ecommerce business?

Email Marketing

Email Marketing, as the name implies, is a marketing method that uses emails to promote or sell services/products. I think it’s one of the first online marketing methods ever used, and it has successfully kept its dominance to this day.

How come is it still so widely used by businesses in 2021? Because it’s one of the cheapest promotional methods that can still bring amazing results if done correctly!

And the best thing about email marketing is the low investment requirement which means you don’t have to spend too much of your money to get started.

So if you’re still thinking about it or don’t know how to setup your emails, then this article is a must read for you! Follow my instructions and you will know exactly how to setup your first email marketing campaigns.

What Email Marketing App or Service Should You Use?

Abandonment Protector Shopify App

There are plenty of email marketing services you can use to setup your email campaigns. Most of them also have direct integrations with Shopify like Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, etc…

You can easily install one of these apps on your Shopify store and start sending emails, but it will be up to you to organize everything. Stuff like creating different lists for different type of customers, designing your own emails, and other stuff some of you might find a bit difficult or confusing.

It’s also a bit more time consuming but at least you have full control over everything you do.

I suggest using a different app called Abandonment Protector – This app isn’t exactly the classic email marketing app but it has everything you need to setup the perfect emails in your store FAST.

You have ready to use design templates, a newsletter features, and all needed emails ready to be activated with just a few clicks. You have less control but it’s much easier to use and the price is also really cheap.

We use this app ourselves for ALL of our stores and it has always been on our recommend list. It’s super easy to use and does it all exactly as advertised.

Note #1:

We gain nothing from mentioning this app and have no partnership with its owners.

Note #2:

Everything I’m about to show you in this article will be through this app and how I personally use it. Like I already said, showing the same things with Mailchimp or other services may be too difficult for some of you so I prefer the more simple way ?

Welcome Email

This is the first email people who subscribed to your newsletter or customers who agreed to receive emails will receive. It’s usually a simple email thanking people for subscribing with a special discount promo code if they ever want to purchase from your store.

welcome email abandonment protector

Abandonment protector app gives you an option to send 3 timed emails but I prefer having only one active. I have already a different email sequence working, and having another one may be a bit too much.

I don’t want to “spam” my customers so I have only one sequence of three emails active where it matters the most.

A welcome email is not the most important email you can have on your store but it’s nice to have one, especially if you include a promo code which can someday convert into a sale.

Checkout Abandonment Recovery Emails

Next is probably the most important emails you can have on your store and where you should use a 3 email sequence.

Checkout Abandonment Recovery Emails

Facebook ad costs are constantly rising and you have to make the most out of each click you get to your store. Those who didn’t purchase a thing can be always brought back to your store, you just need to know how.

With this app, you can bring back those who left their email but didn’t complete their purchase. With a simple sequence of 3 emails, you have a chance to bring some people back and hopefully convert them into paying customers.

My personal tips:

  1. Don’t touch the times between the emails and keep it as the app suggests – They know what they’re doing so these numbers aren’t random so I trust they know better than most of us.
  2. Offer a single discount only on the third email – Some people offer a smaller discount on the 2nd email and a bigger one on the 3rd. I think it makes the store look a bit cheap and too hungry for sales, so I prefer having a discount only on the 3rd email.
  3. Use the suggested titles – The app offers some titles you can use for your emails and it also tells you if your title is too spammy. Stick to what they say and make sure you’re in the clear.
  4. Test send your emails – After you finish designing your emails, send a test email to see how it really looks. I suggest checking how your email look on your phone as most of the customers come from mobile.
  5. Keep your emails clean – The designer is really simple and there are plenty of templates you can use. Don’t go crazy with the colors & fonts, and just keep it simple.
  6. Switch between the templates – Don’t use the same template over and over again. You can use the same email templates for the first 2 emails and use a different one for the third one where you give people a discount.

Here’s an example of a simple email template we use for our stores:

As you can see, nothing too fancy and no crazy colors or fonts. We only changed the button color to go with our orange color logo(it’s blurred here) and kept the rest black & white.

Setting up these emails is SUPER IMPORTANT and if you don’t do that you’re leaving a lot of money on the table. It shouldn’t take you more than 30 minutes to setup the perfect abandonment recovery emails for your store.

And you don’t have to sell in big volumes to see the results. We had this app working its magic and converting lost sales for us already in the first days of our store being live.

Thank You Email

This is a very important email to have, where as the name implies, you say thank you to your customers for making a purchase.

This email is sent a few minutes after the purchase is done and usually store owners tend to attach a special discount code on top of saying thank you.

I do the same thing exactly, but I also include a few words about shipping & tracking and a support email if my customers need any help.

This way they won’t open instant PayPal/Stripe cases if something goes wrong 🙂

You have a few more automated emails you can activate with Abandonment Protector app, but these 3 are enough for the beginning.

Newsletter

Newsletter emails

Creating and sending campaigns to your email lists is super simple with this app – You can design from scratch or use a ready template to send emails advertising new products.

I suggest using their templates just to save time and sending out an email once every week or two – Make it a ritual where you each time make a discount on certain category, and people will be waiting for your email each week.

Remember… If your customers don’t like your emails, then they’ll simply unsubscribe from your list. Sending an email once a week isn’t spammy at all and you can make a good amount of sales if you do it correctly.

And don’t worry too much about losing subscribers – It’s part of the process.

To Sum It Up:

Email marketing is one of the best ways to make extra money from your subscribers, and to recover those lost sales without spending way too much money.

This app has it all when it comes to email marketing and they also have a few more tools like exit popups which is a nice bonus you can use too.

So download the app, setup your email campaigns, and start getting sales!

Good luck!

Alibaba takes on Amazon with fast global shipping

Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba is going to challenge Amazon with the goal of providing fast shipping times worldwide.

According to the report in The Wall Street Journal, Alibaba seeks to be able to ship globally within 72 hours. Prices on Alibaba are cheaper than on Amazon, with many Amazon products made in China.

The global e-commerce market is estimated to reach $1.4 million by 2025, according to the report. Alibaba has 800 robots in its China warehouse and is about twice as efficient as a regular warehouse, a manager at the warehouse said.

The company sold a total of $75 billion during Single’s Day last year, which takes place over 11 days. This is more than all of the e-commerce sales during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Amazon’s Prime Day combined.

Alibaba contains other companies such as AliExpress and Alibaba Cloud which can help speed up the shipping process.

While Amazon only offers its fastest delivery option in 21 countries while charging an extra fee, Alibaba delivers to over 190 countries and will offer its fast shipping service for a fee of only $3.

The quality of products from China can be an issue with counterfeit products but Alibaba continues trying to deal with problematic suppliers.

Facebook and Shopify could become fierce competitors

0
(Credit: Ivan Samkov)

While Facebook’s main business focus has been advertising, it is now moving more into e-commerce and competing more directly with Shopify.

According to an article by Jeremy Bowman at The Motley Fool, Facebook is the main tool used for online businesses, often used in conjunction with Shopify, and therefore it would be advantageous for it to keep the payments in-house as well.

Facebook previously launched Shops and CEO Mark Zuckerberg spent time on a recent earnings call saying: “Our approach is to work our way down the stack and build world class services at every layer of commerce — starting from discovery at the top of the stack all the way down to payments.”

This could mean that Facebook could develop its own internal system to serve as a brand’s website and fulfill orders, something that until now Shopify does. Facebook, which the report says, is Shopify’s largest source of traffic, could more directly start competing with Shopify and take away some of its business.

Canadian e-commerce is booming

Canada has not been as quick to shift to online shopping as the United States but since the coronavirus outbreak, e-commerce has almost doubled since 2019.

Canada’s e-commerce grew by 75% in 2020, with only Argentina beating it with growth of 100.6%, according to a report by Insider Intelligence/eMarketer.

The logistics of sending orders to a population spread across a large land area had limited e-commerce growth in Canada.

E-commerce is set to grow by 12% in 2021 and reach $64.51 billion, almost twice the sales volume in 2019.

However, e-commerce will still only make up 13.4% of total retail this year and is predicted to reach 17.2% by 2020. The U.S. e-commerce market is expected to grow to 23.6% of the retail market by 2025, according to the report.

Walmart Canada said its e-commerce sales grew 229% over the holiday season ending in January compared to the previous year.
