Shopify allows merchants to sell using pre-orders where the customer pays now, a deposit, or later, or a product in the future.
According to an article published by Shopify on Tuesday, pre-orders can be used for out-of-stock products or pre-launch for a product.
“If your product is unavailable or out-of-stock when shoppers want it, they’ll simply move on to the next store,” said the article. Therefore, pre-orders makes it so you don’t have to turn down a sale to a customer.
Pay now means the customer pays upfront, and you close the purchase.
Pay later means that the customer makes a deposit or payment is delayed until the item ships.
You can set up pre-orders on Shopify by installing an app. Shopify recommends these three pre-order apps:
Some users are dissatisfied with the impulse to imitate the expanding social media platform, as Instagram has shifted its focus to short videos in recent years to compete with TikTok.
“I remember when (Instagram) first came out and we were all using those filters … on our photos,” said Christina Olivarez, founder and chief executive officer of The Social Butterfly Gal, according to a report by USA Today on Monday.
However, she said, the Instagram algorithm “is not prioritizing people that we already follow.”
“It is trying to get in the same realm as TikTok. And so I do feel like there are things that they should kind of prioritize a little bit more versus just trying to overly compete with TikTok,” Olivarez said.
The report quotes other influencers also criticizing Instagram for veering too far away from its original feel and putting more emphasis on video through its Reels feature.
Only 2.3% of US internet users use cryptocurrencies, despite the astounding growth of cryptocurrency payments by US adults.
According to data by Insider Intelligence/eMarketer, 5.5 million US adults will use cryptocurrency to make payments in 2023, an increase of over 350% in three years.
Yet, this only makes up only 2.3% of US internet users.
Other payment options are more popular such as proximity mobile payments – using NFC to pay for goods and services at a physical point-of-sale. They are projected to have 105.9 million users ages 14 and up next year.

Twitter is projected to lose 1.4 million users from 2022 until 2026, according to data published by Insider Intelligence/eMarketer.
Many users are leaving after joining during the coronavirus pandemic and the 2020 presidential election.
Twitter is also going through a difficult period as Elon Musk signaled he wants to cancel the company’s buyout because he argues there are many bot accounts.
According to the data, there were 57.8 million Twitter users in 2021, which dropped to 57.5 million in 2022 and will continue to decline to 56.9 in 2023, 56.4 in 2024, and 56.1 in 2025.

The data measures the number of users who access their Twitter account at least once per month.
In a recent Youtube post, Gary Vee said that TikTok became popular because of its algorithm, which shows users what they are interested in.
On the other hand, older social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter show you content based on who you follow, but this is less interesting for users over the long term since interests change.
“People are always evolving,” said Gary Vee, noting that your old friends on Facebook have changed just as you have, and the things they post may not be interesting to you anymore.
TikTok “keeps pounding interests,” he said, adding that Facebook and others are trying to copy TikTok, but algorithms are no easy matter to create and are complex.
Facebook monthly users in the United States are projected to remain flat and not grow in the coming years, according to data by Insider Intelligence/eMarketer.
Following a peak of 179.7 million users last year, it is expected that the popular platform will lose 2.1 million users by the end of 2024 and then remain at around 177.6 million until 2026.
“Young people are driving the decline. This year, 1.6 million 18- to 24-year-olds in the US will stop using Facebook, a steeper drop than previously forecast,” according to Insider Intelligence/eMarketer.

Users aged 26 to 41 will drop by 2.1%, marking the first time the platform lost users in this age range.
US retail e-commerce sales will reach over $1 trillion this year, an increase of 9.4% from $960.44 billion last year.
According to data by Insider Intelligence/eMarketer, more than 20% of money spent on retail will come from e-commerce by 2026. This year e-commerce will make up 15% of all retail sales and is predicted to reach 16.4% next year.
“Online sales contribute an increasing share of the country’s total retail sales, which will approach$7 trillion this year,” stated the report.
Amazon will make up 37.8% of all online sales, which is more than the next 14 largest e-commerce competitors combined.

The global market for virtual reality (VR) headsets grew by 241.6% in the first quarter of this year, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
Meta garnered 90% of the market share with its Quest 2, and ByteDance’s Pico had a 4.5% share, mainly in China.
“The good news is that the upcoming productivity-oriented headset from Meta will serve as the starting point for the company’s pivot towards higher revenue generating hardware and will also help provide an uplift in end-user pricing for the entire industry as average selling prices creep up and the tech substantially improves,” said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers.
“Meta continues to pour dollars into developing the metaverse but the strategy of promoting low-cost hardware at the expense of profitability isn’t sustainable in the long run,” said Ubrani.
VR headset shipments are forecast to grow to 13.9 million this year and, in 2023, should be even bigger with next-generation headsets from Meta, Pico, Sony, and Apple.
