Twitter is going to start testing a shopping option at the top of the profile pages for businesses, the company announced on Wednesday.
Twitter said that in the past it had explored offering shopping but never got around to it, until now. “We’re back and putting more energy into testing out the potential for shopping on Twitter,” the social media company said.
As part of the testing phase, they launched a pilot of the Shop Module – “a feature that allows us to explore how shoppable profiles can create a pathway from talking about and discovering products on Twitter to actually purchasing them.”
The Shop Module will appear at the top of a profile where a company can show its product. If this shopping function will be enabled it will be possible to scroll through various products and tap on one to learn more or purchase without having to leave Twitter.
The pilot will start only with a small group of brands in the United States on iOS devices.
Facebook began offering a shopping feature last year.
