TikTok announced on Monday that it has 150 million monthly active users in the United States, up from 100 million in 2020.

Reuters reported that the Chinese-owned app revealed the amount ahead of TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew’s hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Thursday.

On Friday, six more US senators approved bipartisan legislation that would give President Joe Biden new authority to prohibit TikTok on national security grounds. TikTok stated last week that the Biden administration asked its Chinese owners to renounce their stake or face a US ban.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner, cosponsoring legislation to give the administration the authority to ban TikTok, stated at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast that he did not believe TikTok data in the United States was safe.

The latest numbers demonstrate the app’s widespread popularity among younger People.
